Swimsuit season is right around the corner and for many people that means one thing: dieting. In an office setting, though, cutting back on calories and finding time to exercise can seem like an impassable hurdle, as a recent CareerBuilder.com survey reports that 45 percent of workers have gained weight at their current jobs, similar to last year’s findings. The survey was conducted from February 11 through March 13, 2008 among 7,688 workers.
Twenty-six percent of employees report they have gained more than ten pounds and 12 percent say they gained more than 20 pounds while in their present positions. Comparing genders, women are more likely (50 percent) than men (42 percent) to say they have gained weight at their current jobs.

Jeffrey Adkins was paid more than $100,000 a year by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for his extensive knowledge of computer systems. He wasn’t, however, quite so savvy about covering his tracks. Adkins frequently visited sexually explicit Web sites and did work for his church while on the clock, the Ohio inspector general’s office said in a report this week.

After getting laid off in 2008 from her corporate job of five years, Sheila Miller, a marketing professional from the Southeast, noticed a coworker pal who was still with the company “acting strange.”
Miller tried to contact her friend outside the office but got the sense that her friend was ducking her calls and e-mails. Not only that, “When I did get her on the phone, she was very quick to hang up,” Miller said.
