Best DVDs of January - The Tudors- The Complete Second Season

Author: Editor  //  Category: Entertainment, Video Reviews

Tudors

What is it: The Tudors- The Complete Second Season
is
the second installment to the engrossing historical SHOWTIME drama.  The series chronicles the reign and marriages of King Henry VII under England’s Renaissance Dynasty.  The second season finds Henry as the head of his own Church of England, working to banish Katherine of Aragon, while Anne Boleyn becomes the new Queen.  However, her failure to produce an heir for the King leads to Anne’s downward spiral, sending Henry’s attention elsewhere.

Why it’s Significant: Whether you are a fan or have not yet been exposed to The Tudors, you will love the second season.  This season places more emphasis on the political aspects and the historical content behind King Henry VIII’s reign, while still maintaining the sexy, raw appeal of the first season.  The Tudors takes you to a world torn apart by church, corrupted power, greed and lust.  You will be drawn to the lavish costumes and the drama behind turbulent Renaissance England and what would become The Tudor Dynasty.

Screen Actors Guild Nominations Announced

Author: Editor  //  Category: Entertainment, Video Reviews

Doubt_lDoubt topped other films with five SAG Award nominations, which were announced today. The Meryl Streep-starrer, which is buzzed to be more of an acting contender than a Best Picture one, was joined by Milk and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which each earned three nods.

Clint Eastwood was again shut out for his leading role in Gran Torino, which is further dimming his chances at Oscar. Kate Winslet, on the other hand, is becoming more than likely to be a double Oscar nominee next month, with her leading role in Revolutionary Road and supporting role in The Reader (her Road co-star Leonardo DiCaprio was not nominated in the lead acting category this time around; that slot went to The Visitor's Richard Jenkins, who has reportedly been campaigning hard for Oscar, along with The Wrestler's Mickey Rourke).

Over on the TV side, Mad Men and 30 Rock again dominated the nominees (although at this point, what else is new?). Here is the complete list of nominees:
